A recent project to undertake diamond drilling Chelmsford works in Essex to diamond drill a hole into a manhole chamber. Drill Masters were required to drill a 300 diameter hole through a 200mm thick concrete manhole ring and benching to allow a new mains connection to be made for a housing estate under development. Although straight forward the required hole was at a depth of 8M below ground level due to the required fall on the pipe. To achieve the project aim Drill Masters utilised a hydraulic diamond drilling rig to ensure the torque and power were available for the size and thickness of the core to be drilled. As the hole to be diamond drilled was in an excavation the opening had to be shored up and treated as a confined space for safety reasons. All Drill Masters diamond drilling operatives are trained to operate within confined space environments resulting in the hole being completed on time to allow the pipe connection to be made as requested.
