Project: Diamond Drilling Norwich for Water Cooled Heat Pump

This project required a channel to be diamond core drilled through a river wall to allow the installation of pipes to feed a new water cooled heat pump to be fitted to a new build house in Norwich.
This project was not an easy job as the river had to be retained from the trench as much as possible and the thickness of the river wall meant the channel had to be stitched drilled to a depth of 450 mm in solid reinforced concrete. Drill Masters Ltd achieved this by diamond drilling a series of 150 diameter holes, with a Diamond Drill Motor and stand, all slightly over lapping each other to from the channel. This obviously commenced from the inside towards the river edge. The diamond cored holes were removed at the correct depth to form the base of the channel. The total length of the channel through the wall was 1.2 M with 20 mm reinforcement bar throughout. On arriving at the final hole which would let the river water enter the trench a sandbag wall was constructed inside the river to withhold the majority of the water until the pipes could be installed and concreted in place.
Although the project only lasted a day for the diamond drilling team it saved the client a considerable amount of time and expense compared to the original planned method. On the back of this successful project Drill Masters have since worked for the client again on a similar project in Cambridgeshire
