What is Diamond Drilling?
When we say we are diamond drilling contractors based in East Anglia many people think we are drilling massive holes looking for diamonds. Fortunately we are not digging up East Anglia in the search of precious stones. As diamonds are extremely hard they can be used to cut tough materials such as concrete with reinforcement bars in and marble. This is achieved by an abrasive grinding motion with the harder material. In effect, diamonds cutting the stones.
However, they cannot be used to cut wood or metal as these materials are too soft. Diamond drilling uses circular open-middle barrels with synthetic man made diamonds welded onto the outer barrel edge. By drilling with this method the center ‘core’ can be removed leaving a clean neat hole. Diamond Drilling is used predominantly in the construction industry for holes for pipes, electrical cables and ventilation ducts.
