Malt Opening, Stowmarket

Project: New Lift Opening
Location: Muntons, Stowmarket
Client: Muntons PLC
You would be amazed at the amount of malt that is used in every day food products. Some uses are obvious, as well known brands are famed for it, for others it as a less well known ingredient.
The modern malting is an efficient, 24/7 operation working to food production standards. During the production process the product is moved by conveyors and pipe-work through out the malting. As new uses for the product are developed these require new equipment to be installed.
Drill Masters Whole Solutions were employed to create new 2m x 3m openings through the 5 reinforced floors within the production building. Due to the location, restrictions and clients requirements it was decided to use hydraulic drilling and sawing equipment powered by L.P.G. Every cut section of concrete was removed with a small crane, set up on the top level within the building. This in turn lowered the concrete sections through the previous formed openings to the ground floor for disposal off site. Full Water control from within waterproof screens around the working area was maintained.
Each costed operation was supported by Method statements and risk assessments to allow the client to programme the complete project while maintaining full production.
Working at the malting has never put us off eating and drinking it!
