Inverted Diamond Drilling Colchester
Inverted Diamond Drilling Colchester
As a diamond drilling and concrete cutting specialist we are often being asked how to overcome difficult site conditions and problems experienced on construction sites.
One such problem came up recently when we were asked to diamond drill holes on a project in Colchester. The client required 24 no 150 diameter holes diamond drilled through a 300mm thick reinforced concrete ceiling for new soil pipe stacks. This is fairly straight forward apart from the fact we were unable to gain access to the roof to drill the holes. This was due to the roof being a curved design and it wsnt practical to scaffold out the roof or use a cherry picker. The only option was for us to drill the holes upside down (inverted diamond drilling). This process sounds easy enough but we cannot use normal diamond drilling motors as these are electric and the water running over them would cause problems.
The solution is to use a hydraulic driven diamond drill motor which operates off a standard hydraulic power pack and can function with water running over the motor. Drill Mastes were able to complete the project by utilising this method of operation and fixing the stand and hydraulic motor to the ceiling. The drill motor and stand were covered with a polythene screen to catch and direct the water run off. The complete project took 5 days to complete and the client was very happy with the methodology and the method used to contain the water.
